BALLAD OF THE FAMOUS FIVE

Carved a place in the history of Canada’s nation
The Famous Five changed the face of our land

VERSE Born in a time that seemed so benign
When ladies were seen but not heard
Fair of face and in their place
When meekness was mostly preferred

The Five looked around and everywhere they found
The world revolved around men
They said “We must fight what is not right
No matter who we may offend”

CHORUS Five women united and united were strong
Five women said “Now we’ve begun”
They rallied the nation for all generations
And fought ‘til the battle won

VERSE Women wanted a voice and a say in the choice
Of the matters affecting our land
They didn’t believe they shouldn’t achieve
Every right freely given to men

So arm in arm from the cities and farms
Their voices joined and were heard
Hand in hand the women of this land
Fought the fights, won the rights they deserved

CHORUS Five women united and united were strong
Five women said “Now we’ve begun”
They rallied the nation for all generations
And fought ‘til the battle was won

CHORUS Five women united and united were strong
Five women said “Now we’ve begun”
They rallied the nation for all generations
And fought ‘til the battle was won
And fought ‘til the battle was won
